He was predeceased by: his son Darren Richards; and his brother Doug Richards (Arlene). He is survived by: his wife Lois; his children, Debra Cox (Rickey), Steve Richards (Christine) and Mike Richards; his grandchildren, Tamara Leonard, Ryan Cox, Darren Richards, Emily Richards, Mikayla Richards and Braydon Richards; his great grandchildren, Ava Leonard, Brooklyn Leonard and Grayson Leonard; and his sister Sharon Young.
