He was predeceased by: his father Rene LaPorte; and his in-laws, Darlene and Harold Bernachi. He is survived by: his children, Justin LaPorte (Jessica) and Dana Ubakar (Bruno); his grandchildren, Vivien, Alessia, Christie Lyn and Alexander; his mother Georgette LaPorte; his siblings, Michelle, Richard, Rene (Brandy), Marc (Anna) and Jerome; and his siblings-in-law, Cal, Jan (Glenn), Jay (Eva), Tod (Michelle) and Lia (Ray). He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society and Parkinson Society.
