He was predeceased by: his nephew Horst; his parents, Albert Ruther and Frieda Ruther; and his sisters, Waltraud and Dora.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his children, Pamela, Christopher (Cathy), Rhonda (Kevin) and Troy (Lilia); his grandchildren, Shane, Madison, Adam, Jasmine, Averie and Dorien; and his nephews, Heike and David (Jennifer).
