He was predeceased by: his sister-in-law Betty Merton (Harold); his parents, Phyllis Swales and Cecil "Toots" Swales; and his siblings, Sandy Adlam, Marie Welch and Bob Swales.

He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his daughter Lisa Stachow (Ross); his grandchildren, Madalyn, Olivia Stachow and Maci; his brothers-in-law, Bill Andrew (Elaine) and Jim Chamberlain (Judith); his nephew Christopher (Carol); his niece Paula (Pat); his great-niece Rachel; his great-nephew Spencer; his nieces and nephews, Welch and Chamberlain; and his friend Larry Richardson.
