He was predeceased by : his parents, Hugh MacDiarmid and Janet MacDiarmid; and his brothers, Douglas, Charles and Garry.

He is survived by : his spouse Verna; his children, David (Trudy) of Summerstown and Dean (Nicole) of Apple Hill; his grandchildren, Devin, Dylan and Brook; his siblings, Malcolm Blackadder (Esther) of Perth and Janice Blackadder (Bob) of Cornwall; and his sister-in-law Sheila of Oakville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
