Ian Foster Obituary

With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Ian Foster (Bancroft, Ontario), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on December 20, 2025 at the age of 41. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Ian Foster to pay them a last tribute.

As we bid adieu to Ian's earthly form, let us not dwell on the void left in his wake, but rather celebrate the legacy of love and inspiration Ian has bequeathed us. For though he may have departed from our sight, his spirit remains a timeless beacon, guiding loved ones through the labyrinth of life's journey.

He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Orwell, Grace Muirhead, Dean and Eleanor Foster. He is survived by: his parents, Craig Foster and Anna-May Foster (Muirhead); and his siblings, Brad of Timmins, Ashley and Chris of St. Thomas. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

“On behalf of the educators in the DDSB who knew Ian as an incredible learner and masterful musician, our condolences to his entire family at his passing. Ian, you will never grow old in our memories. With your time at Eastdale CVI and your post-graduate visits while we ran concerts at J Clarke Richardson and beyond, you will always be that young, keen, hard-working, and talented person who never backed down from a challenge and (with a tad bit of sarcasm and sass), brought joy into our lives. Ian and his music classmates accomplished many amazing things during their senior years at Eastdale, which were the final bookends to a time of education strikes and political turmoil. I have always been very proud of them for so many achievements: restarting bands, specifically the Senior Wind Ensemble; bringing back the Eastdale Theatre Company and renewing the Pit Orchestra; revitalizing the music program through trips, competitions, and concerts, along with coaching younger music students on not only musicianship but teamwork, collaboration, and positive interdependence; starting an Arts Student Council (of which Ian was the first President!); creating and establishing the Durham Senior Honour Band performance opportunity, and many others. I am so proud to see Ian had earned the titled of Doctor, as it feels very fitting - he was a brilliant and meticulous learner (I have a keen remembrance of Ian dealing with an impossible saxophone passage from the musical FAME, which he not only worked on for hours but mastered to the point that it seemed effortless! He was amazing!) Ian, you will be so very missed. Thank you for bringing music and joy into the lives of so many, and thank you for your hard work and dedication - you are a very special person and will hold a place in our hearts forever. “Ian will always live in the memories we made growing up together—the easy laughter at school, long afternoons at Baker Park, and the countless moments that felt ordinary then but mean everything now. From parties in Foster’s basement to summers at the cottage, those times were full of friendship, mischief, and a sense that life was wide open.
