He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Renéé Steyn; his children, Dirk, Corietha Cilliers (Hannes), Rudolf (Gwyneth) and Willie; his grandchildren, Henk Steyn (Louise), Sarel Steyn (Heike), Renee Strauch (Aaron), Hannes Jr. Cilliers (Kim), Cornelius Cilliers (Nina), Henre Steyn (Krysta), Alma Steyn, Renette Morela (Nelson), Willem Steyn and Conrad Steyn (Amanda); and his great grandchildren, Morne, Anja, Torben, Judson, Henry, John, Nathan, Anna, Claire, Daniel, Jane, Nelia and Myla. He was also cherished by extended family and many friends.
