He was predeceased by: his parents, Carmelo Sammut (Charles) and Emilia Sammut (Amelia); his grandfather Nunu; John, Tom, Paul, Eddie and Josie.

He is survived by: his children, Katherine (Gerald), Joe Jr. (Andrea), Neil (Simone), Konnie and Holly; his grandchildren, Benjamin (Saisha), Lindsay (Matthew), Janelle (Manny), Matthew (Anisha), Shelby and Meghan; and his uncle Joe. He is also survived by nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 11th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (30 Worsley St, Barrie, ON L4M1L4). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church (65 Amelia St, Barrie, ON L4M1M7). A reception was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (30 Worsley St, Barrie, ON L4M1L4).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's name to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County (https://alzheimer.ca) or to High Park Nature Centre and are greatly appreciated by the family.
