He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parent Belleville; his wife Anne Lietaer; his children, Christine Quinn (Paul), Laura Lietaer (Van) and Paul Lietaer; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Daniel, Matthew, Emily, Anna, Freddie and Jonathan; and his brothers, Richard (Linda) and Tom Lietaer (Shelley). He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.

“I was in Dan's Science Dept at Bayside SS for 2 years in the new building. Of the 3 schools I taught in, this was the best rounded out and most cohesive group==we laughed a great deal and were proud to be starting out new. Dan was a special guy to work with---firm at times, with acceptance of us and a wry humour. He did not work us outside as hard as the football team though. I send my sympathies to his family and friends. A special man indeed. Remember him well. One of a kind. Dave J.”
