He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Wilson and Dorothy Wilson; and his brother Don Wilson (late Lorene). He is survived by: his wife Olive Wilson; his children, Stephanie Clarey of Whitehorse, Yukon, Hal Wilson Jr. (Josée) and Illinois; his grandchildren, Willem, Joseph, Jacob, Noah and Sienna; and his brothers, Gary Wilson (Sandra) and Doug Wilson (Rita).

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, October 10th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Rushnell Funeral Homes - Belleville (80 Highland Ave, Belleville, ON K8P3R4). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.

In May 1999, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Queen's Theological College in recognition of his many contributions to his community, the national United Church, Queen's University, and the Theological College in particular.
