Jo-Anne Lee Obituary

It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Jo-Anne Lee (Belleville, Ontario), who passed away, on May 27, 2018. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

A beautiful light in this world has been lost, but Heaven is rejoicing because it has a new arrival." The family of Dorothy Jo-Anne Lee is very sad to announce her death, on Sunday, May 27, 2018, after many illnesses, bravely borne. Jo-Anne was the cherished daughter of the late Joe and Dorothy Lee, and was predeceased by her beloved brother, Fred. Left to grieve Jo-Anne's loss are her dear sister, Mary Pickett, her cousin, Sylvia MacPherson, her eight nieces and nephews, and Patty Bankey-Lee. A vivacious, sociable, and brilliant person, Jo-Anne made many friends throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by lifelong buddies, including Anne Bunnett, the Culhane and Bunnett families, devoted school chums, her wonderful colleagues, members of her St. Joseph's Church family and those of the many charities to which she devoted so much of her time and energy. A lifelong learner and voracious reader, Jo appreciated the wonderful education she received at St. Joseph's, St. Michael's Academy, St. Michael's High School, and Nicholson Catholic College and she was always proud to say that she was a member of the first graduating class of N.C.C. Following the example of many excellent teachers, including Rev. Sister Mary Teresa and Rev. Father McGee, she was the beloved "Miss Lee" to many students in her 36 amazing years up until her retirement as a teacher at St. Michael's, St. Joseph's and Holy Rosary schools. Blessed with a delightful sense of humour, Jo told a story like no other, and with a lift of her eyebrows, and the comedic timing of Bob Hope, she would deliver the punch line and leave her audience laughing heartily. Generous with her time and donations, she supported Gleaners' Food Bank from the start and served as a board member there and on the board of R.T.O. (Retired Teachers of Ontario). During her teaching days, she served on several committees of the local branch of O.E.C.T.A (Ontario English Teachers' Association). Jo's life was one which was truly lived for others, and she had a deep faith in God, which was such a support for her throughout her life, and in her times of illness. Arrangements for Jo's care have been entrusted to Burke's Funeral Home and cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 9th, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with a reception to follow in the church hall. Please join us to remember the life of a truly remarkable woman. If desired, the family would appreciate donations to Gleaners' Food Bank or the Quinte Humane Society.
