He is survived by: his daughter Polly Shannon; his grandchildren, Pasha and Loïc Dyson; his son Micah Shannon; his former wife Mary MacKay-Smith; his sisters, Erin and Catherine; and his former wife Jeanette Arsenault. He is also survived by his family, friends.
Following his military service, he served as President of the Canadian Foundation for Global Health and held advisory roles in emerging medical and biotechnology organizations.
