He was predeceased by : his grandchild Caitlyn; his parents, George Benson and Eva Benson; and his brothers, William (Norma), James Errol (Fay), Jack, David (Edna), Paul (Marion) and Bruce (Carol).

He is survived by : his wife Marilyn; his children, Catherine and Stephen (Dawn); his grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, Emily and Greg; his great grandchildren, Shayla and Wesley; and his sister Audrey Mann (Kenneth). He is also survived by his family and friends.

He was honoured by the Toronto Construction Association and presented with the Donald P. Giffin, Sr. Award for his contributions to the construction industry over the past 60 years. He was also honoured by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction numerous times in recognition of a career of invaluable contributions to the Steel Industry across Canada.
