With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joao Sousa Batista (Brampton, Ontario), who passed away on January 1, 2026 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

In the echoes of fond remembrance, may a sense of peace be found, knowing that the memories held dear will continue to shape and inspire his loved ones, keeping Joao's spirit alive in the hearts and actions of family and friends alike. While his presence may be gone, his impact lives on in the kindness shown to others and the joy found in the ordinary moments of life.

He was predeceased by: his brother Manuel; and his parents, Brazilian Damiarsio and Vigiero of Sousa Batista. He is survived by: his children, Paulina, Lisa (Andrew Majanovic), Vavô of Anthony and Brianna; and his brother José of Sousa. He is also survived by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 7th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brampton Funeral Home & Cemetery (10061 Chinguacousy Rd, Brampton, ON L7A0H6). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 8th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, January 8th 2026 from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Georgetown Hospital or Holy Cross Church.
