He was predeceased by: his parents, Natverlal Gandhi and Umiyaben Gandhi; his daughters, Shivani and Radhika; and his siblings, Sailesh and Kaushaliya Mehta.

He is survived by: his sister Ansuya; his brother-in-law Dilip Brahmania; his wife Minal Mehta of Surat; his daughters, Kana and Minal; his sibling Arunchandra Gandhi (Champaben); and his siblings-in-law, Niranjanlal Mehta, Ansuya Brahmania (Dilip), Sumitra Mehta (Yogeshkumar), Ramchandra Gandhi (Rekhaben) and Jyotiben Gandhi. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Kanaiya often donated to SickKids Foundation, The War Amps, and local food banks.
