Tim Marta wrote a sympathy message

“Hello: On behalf of the Marta family, please accept our sincerest condolences on the passing of Bernie. He was the long-time best friend of my Dad, who died in 2002, going back to their university days. My brother Richard and I had a wonderful visit with Bernie at his gorgeous home in Brantford in 2012. Eventhough we saw him only occasionally, we will truly miss Bernie. All the best, Tim Marta, 613-728-2130”
