He was predeceased by: his father Robert Charters; his children, Dan (Christina Myke) and Amanda Innes (Brian); his stepchildren, Robyn Lambe (William Rutter) and Mark Lambe (Catherine); his grandchildren, Memphis and Maddie; his stepgrandchildren, Ethan, Reese and Emma; and his siblings, Nancy-Grace Ray (Rob), Shawn (Michelle McGregor) and Michael (Nancy Cranston).

He is survived by: his close friend Barb Lambe; and his mother Diane Charters.
