He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerrit and Arie; his former wife Gloria; his brother Arie; and his sister-in-law Tina Kooistra.
He is survived by: his wife Rena; his sons, Matthew (Nancy), Thomas and Alan (Melissa); his grandchildren, Kyle, Lauren, Mitchell, Nicholas and Keegan (Rena); his siblings, Gerrit (Rhonda) and Hilda; his siblings-in-law, Marueen and Bill Wheeler (Gail); his stepchildren, Mark VanderMey (Alishia), Dawn Edgley (Steve) and Tim VanderMey (Carrie); and his stepgrandchildren, Andrew, Sebastian (Emily), Lillian VanderMey, Ava (Zane), Christian Edgley, Damion Sharpe, Cole VanderMey, Emma Meadows (Teagan) and Kale VanderMey. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel (4 James St E, Brockville, ON K6V1J9). A celebration of life was held on Friday, September 25th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church (117 Windsor Dr, Brockville, ON K6V3H7).
