He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Ernest and Alice; and his siblings, Raymond and Joanne. He is survived by: his wife Eileen; his children, Brian (Carol), Martin (Janette), Paul (Dominga) and Lori Dunn (Steve); and his brothers, Richard and Robert.
He was deeply committed to the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association, where he served as its first full-time president, and was recognized with numerous honours for his contributions to education in Ontario.
