He was predeceased by: his wife Darlene (Keais); and his parents, Lieutenant Donald MacKenzie and Mary Gillis (McSavaney). He is survived by: his stepfather Joe Gillis.

“Unfortunately, I don't know Gordon, but I would have liked to tell him that the community in our village every year on May 4 and Christmas Eve Remember his father Lt. D.C. Mackenzie. In addition, we try to give him a face and pass on his story so that we don't forget him and others. The first time I am at the Canadian cemetery in Holten I will put 2 roses at his father's grave in memory of him. So that we don't forget. Johan, Loppersum, Netherlands”
