He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hayward and Mildred Penney; and his siblings, Ronald, Graham, Warrick and Joyce King.

He is survived by: his children, Janelle Penney of Cambridge, ON and Curtis Penney of Woodstock, ON; his grandchildren, Chelsea, Ethan, Callie, Jack and Detra; his great grandchildren, Eliana, Isabelle and Layla; and his brother Lloyd Penney (Joan) of Salmon Cove. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
