He was predeceased by: his parents, Eric Vernon and Edith Vernon; his brother Kenneth Vernon; and his brother-in-law David Simpson. He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Vernon; his children, Gary Vernon (Julie) and Hayley Gillis (David); his grandchildren, Elliott Vernon (Natalie Kornas), Kayla Vernon, David Scott (Janell), Stephen Scott and Kenton Gillis (Carissa Prociuk); his great grandchild Lily Scott; his sister Maureen Simpson; and his sister-in-law Anne Vernon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
