He was predeceased by: his sister Vera Kretschmann; and his son-in-law Philip Renaud. He is survived by: his significant other Ella Hedwig Nawrot; his children, Patricia Renaud, Shirley Findeis (Peter), Michael Nawrot (Nicki), Susan Nawrot and Angela Enns (Russell); and his grandchildren, Steven, Katie, Cassandra and Gabrielle.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Walter's memory to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
