Arthur Melvin Obituary

Surrounded by his loving family at Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Friday August 11th, 2017, Mr. Arthur Melvin of Chatham passed away at the age of 90 years. Cherished son of the late Thomas and Mary Melvin. Beloved husband and best friend of Bernice, married October 2nd, 1948. Loving father of Andrew and his wife Sherri Melvin of Rodney, Robert and his wife Ellen Melvin of Mequon, Wisconsin, and Christine Melvin and her companion Jim Hallinan of Chatham.

He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michael Melvin (Cheryl Waddick), Mark Melvin (Sharon Tucker), Catharine Demars (Dantè), Brenda Derynck (the late Cyril), Tanya Melvin, Ashley Mevlin, Cory Melvin, and Tara Hallinan, and his great grandchildren Alissa, Christopher, Rhiannon, Drew, Matthew, Ethan, Josh, Jordan, Ben, Lily, Andrew, Kayla, Kendra, Kyla, Kesendra, Meladie and Braeden

Dear brother of the late Thomas Melvin (Kate). He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Art drove a truck for Hanover Transport for several years before settling in Chatham in 1946. He then became a mechanic for Western Freight Lines and worked for 43 years as a transport and diesel mechanic retiring in 1989. Unable to be fulfilled by the retiree's life, he resumed work at Waycon Transport for almost 5 more years.

Art was a faithful member of Victoria Avenue United Church of Canada for many years. He served as a member of the men's AOTS and led boy scout troops for many years. Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Wednesday August 16th visiting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev.
