He was predeceased by: his former wife Virgeline; his brothers, Joe and Jim; and his parents, Joseph Smyth and Marjorie Smyth.

He is survived by: his wife Diane (Chapman); his stepchildren, Jeffrey Chapman (Melanie), Shelby Chapman (Peter Gilbert) and Paul Chapman (Nancy); his grandchildren, Eve, Faye, Gwen (Gilbert), Stanley and Rae (Chapman); his siblings, Beth White (late Bud) and John Smyth (Carol); and his siblings-in-law, Patricia Smyth, Louise Smyth, David Devine (Jane), Francine Richard (Phil) and Marcel Pinsonneault.

Visitation was held on Thursday, March 5th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home (245 Wellington St W, Chatham, ON N7M1J9). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, March 6th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church (145 Victoria Ave, Chatham, ON N7L3A7).
