He was predeceased by: his wife Jeannette Mader (Vervacke); his parents, Orville Mader and Sylvia Mader; his son Kevin Smith; and his grandson Kolin Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Grant Smith (Barb Carson) and Terry Smith (Lynda); his grandchildren, Jennifer Seltzer (Adam), Kyle Smith and Kailyn Smith (Matt Dowsett); and his great grandchild Jacob Seltzer.
