He was predeceased by: his parents, Thoss Hoekstra and Eertsche "Esther" Hoekstra; his siblings, Regina Hoekstra (Gerald) and Sjoukina Bailes (Frank); and his nephews, James VanderWeide and Joseph Colby.
He is survived by: his children, Melissa Hoekstra, Tomas Hoekstra, Dirk Hoekstra Jr. (Kelly) and Rebecca Hoekstra; his stepchildren, Marcio Fernandes (Krystal) and Susan Miller (John); and his sisters, Audrey VanderWeide (Al) and Liz Colby (Bill). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the McKinlay Funeral Home - Chatham (459 St Clair St, Chatham, ON N7L3K6). A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Parish (145 Victoria Ave, Chatham, ON N7L3A7). A burial will be held on Wednesday, December 10th 2025 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at the Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Donations made in memory of Dirk to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or a Mass left with Blessed Sacrament Parish would be appreciated by the family.
