He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Birkby (Holloran) and Michael Birkby. He is survived by: his friend Ed Smith; his caregiver Brent Birkby (Kim); his cousins, Penny (Ed Smith) of Chatham, Linda and George Vandenburg; his grandson Mike Birkby (Leah); his great grandchildren, Scott Birkby (Nicole), Michelle Roy (Dave) and David Smith (Nicole); and his friends, Anivel Decosta and John Derksen.
