He was predeceased by: his child Ashley; his parents, William Rate and Jessie Rate; and his brothers, Tom and Gordon Rate.
He is survived by: his spouse Fay Rate (Montgomery); his son Lance; his granddaughter Lily; his siblings, Bill (Carol Rate) and Geraldine (late Lonnie); his nieces and nephews, April (Steph), Shelley, Amanda, Kimbrly, Jennifer, Renene, Carl, John, Melody, Jason, Kevin, Michelle, Theresa, Samantha, Darlene and Ken; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Isabelle, Justine, Holli, Ayden (April), Jackson, Stephen, Nadine, Joshua and Narisses.
