He was loved and cherished by many people including: his former wife Elaine Porter; his siblings, Doug and Jean Slaght; his children, Ross (Susan), Leslie (John) and Susan; his stepchildren, Wendy (Richard), Tom (Jan), Margot (Roland) and Jack (Sue); and his parents, Hugh Van Patter and Jean (Macpherson). He was also cherished by 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
