He was predeceased by : his child Byron; and his father Jim. He is survived by : his wife Kay Dear (Flack); his children, Sandra and Neil; his grandchildren, Paul (Chrissie), Tonya, Dee and Jemma; and his sisters-in-law, Orneva, Elaine, Lena and Irma. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donations in John's memory can be made to the Creemore Union Cemetery.

“I met John through our work for the Goodyear. I enjoyed a professional relationship until retirement and then we started sharing humorous emails and an occasional phone call. I spoke with John not long ago and he indicated that his cancer was winning the battle. I'm so glad we had that last call. Besides Goodyear and jokes, the thing we shared most was a love for dogs, breeding and dog shows. I am so sorry for your loss. We will miss him, and he will not be forgotten. Sincerely, Jim Fedde”
