He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Shanahan and Marguerite Shanahan; and his siblings, Rita, Lillian and Maurice.

He is survived by: his wife Lise Giroux; his children, Colleen Shanahan (John Marshall), Robert Shanahan (late Anjane Keagan) and Steve Shanahan (Stella Wen); his stepson Sylvain Houde (Kamilla Sundstrom Houde); his grandchildren, Addison, Owen, Lauren, Ryland and Teagan; his stepgrandchildren, Tori, Sofia, Grace, Hugo and Tobias; and his sibling Claire (late Ewen).

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family.
