He was predeceased by: his niece Effie Foreman; and his parents, Harry Avery and Madeline. He is survived by: his wife Lorraine; his daughter Nicholle Stanisz (Mark); his grandchildren, Matthew, Emily and Sarah; his sister Jane Ross (Grant); and his sibling's children, Jennifer, Heather, Catherine, Emma Barrie and Robert Barrie.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
