He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert and Marjorie; and his brother Peter. He is survived by : his daughters, Kelly Van Every (Melvin) and Nikki Van (Randy); his grandchildren, Amanda, Danielle, Shelton, Daulton (Kenisha) and Shayleen VanEvery; his great grandchildren, Kayden, Macen Hie and Miles VanEvery; his niece Jennifer; and his nephews, Matthew and Timothy Bernhardt.

Donations to a local animal shelter or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Pippa Creery wrote a sympathy message

“I just learned today of John's passing. John has been a good friend of mine for 20 years. We just spoke on the phone a few weeks before his death, so it was a shock to hear the news. John was such a kind person who loved to lend a helping hand. He had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed a good laugh. He loved his dogs, Oden and Bear and the girls, and spoiled them rotten! I will miss John very much. All my heartfelt sympathy to the family.”
