He was predeceased by: his brother Dr. Neil McPhail (late Laurie). He is survived by: his spouse Beni; his children, Michelle McPhail (Brad Schanck) and Rob McPhail (Sue); his grandsons, James Schanck, Jacob McPhail, Noah McPhail and Lucas McPhail; and his siblings, Rolph McPhail (Eva) and Brian McPhail (Louise).
