Lloyd Harold Markle Obituary

​Peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by his family in a circle of prayer, Lloyd Harold Markle was called home to be with his Lord. Born on November 5, 1950, Lloyd grew up on a family farm in Millgrove. He lived a life deeply rooted in his faith, devoting his life's work to ministry as a Baptist minister. Holding a Master of Divinity, his unwavering guidance, compassion, and spiritual leadership touched the lives of countless individuals across his congregations and communities. Throughout his calling, his family lived in Sarnia, Meaford, Markham, and London, before he eventually retired in Fort Erie.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ruth (Vold). For over half a century, Ruth was not only his devoted partner in life, recently crossing the incredible milestone of 50 years of marriage, but also a deeply supportive and steadfast presence alongside him throughout his ministry. He was a devoted and loving father to Lindsay (Ben), Lloyd (Laura), and Lyle (Anna). He was a proud, adoring grandfather to Alida, Maggie, and Robyn, cherishing every moment spent with his family. Lloyd is also survived by his loving brother Roy (Sandra) and sister Leanne (John). He will be fondly remembered as an adoring uncle to Kayla, Aaron, Dan, Ben, April, Hope and Paul. He is now reunited in faith with his parents, the late Lloyd Cecil and Barbara Markle, his in-laws James and Ann Vold, his grandchild James and his nephew Joel.

​Beyond the pulpit, Lloyd had a profound appreciation for the simple joys and grand adventures of life. He found great peace and happiness at the family cottage, a special retreat that he, Ruth, and their extended family and friends lovingly built to create lasting memories in the forest. As a youth he portaged and paddled extensively through provincial parks. A skilled and passionate craftsman, he also loved harvesting wood and making furniture. An avid explorer of the open road, he took numerous cross-country road trips across North America, visiting most of the states and provinces, as well as enjoying memorable family trips to Norway and Scotland.

​Lloyd's life was a true testament to his dedication to his faith, his family, and the great outdoors. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

​A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fort Erie Legion Branch 71 at 130 Garrison Road, Fort Erie on Sunday August 9th, 2026, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. Attendees may consider sharing a memory or reflection about Lloyd that day.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to plant a Sugar Maple tree in Lloyd’s memory or dedicate a donation in Lloyd’s name to Forests Canada at ForestsCanada.ca
