It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Oiva Laatu of Geraldton, Ontario, born in Kaministiquia, Ontario, who passed away on January 29, 2024, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Elo Laatu and Hanna Laatu; his wife Shirley; and his brothers, William and Esko.

He is survived by : his children, Heather (Macky), Keith (Donna) and Randy; his grandchildren, James (Debbie), Scott (Tara), Shannon (Kevin) and Brent (Brittany); his great grandchildren, Evan, Nolan, Aurora, Ava, Bode, Kase and Easton; his sister Toini Viheriasalo; and his siblings-in-law, Anita Laatu, Aila Laatu, Janet, Arnold Lehto and Martti Puumala. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
