He was predeceased by : his son Timothy Ross Alward; his sisters, Mary, Dorothy and Ida; and his parents, Arthur Lloyd Alward and Clara Drake.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Lu Alward; his sons, Ron (Sharon), Gary (Cathryn), Rick (Angela) and Mark (Karen); his grandchildren, Chelsey Alward (Rhean), Ashley Alward, Bethany Mote, Josiah Alward (Mercedes) and Timothy John Archer-Alward; and his nieces, Sheila Hetherington-Sanders, Sharon Hetherington and Deanna Davis. He is also survived by grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
