He was predeceased by: his wife Merlene Benish; and his siblings, John Paul Barnes, Eileen Gourlay, Dolores McFadden, Evelyn Brown and Theresa Guigue.

He is survived by: his parents, John Barnes and Aurore; his sister Vivian Boxall; his children, Michael Barnes (Linda Hoppin) and Laurie Barnes; and also, Nora, Crete, Diane (Mike), Ashley, Amanda, Anthony and Chloe.
