He was predeceased by: his parents, George Patrick and Muriel Fern Smith (Richardson); and his brother-in-law Bev Gardiner. He is survived by: his spouse Catharina "Cathy" Johanna Smith (VanAlphen); his daughter Mandy; his child-in-law Chris Emery of Woodstock; his siblings, Susan (John Summers), Cheryle Gardiner of Owen Sound, Rebekah (Richard Regier), John (Mary VanAlphen), Martin (Lynda VanAlphen) and Johanna (Ron Granville); and his canine sidekick Bella. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews.
