He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Flaherty (Nelson); his son Scott Flaherty; his siblings, Lorraine Hawn, Ila Hawn, Margareta Longhurst and Robert; and his former wife Lois Conway of Vankoughnet.

He is survived by: his daughter Jan Donovan (Mike); his stepsons, Rick Nelson (Sue) and Tom Nelson (Brenda); his grandchildren, Jessica, Melanie, Michael and Jamie; his great grandchildren, Ravina, Rian, Mikayla, Marcus, Lachlan and Lucy; his sister Iris Watson (Bob MacDonald); and his close friends, Jim, Cheryl Hammond and Gerry. He is also survived by nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
