He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Schmidt (Frank) and Edna Schmidt; his parents-in-law, Edward (Ted) and Marjorie Heffernan; and his sister Marlene Beck.

He is survived by: his wife Dana Schmidt; his child Lynn Schmidt (Trevor Unruh); his grandchildren, Ainslie Unruh and Nathan Unruh; his parents-in-law, James Schmidt (Cheryl), Susan Sutcliffe (David), Elizabeth Brown (Terry), Jeanne Connell (Steve) of Red Deer, Alberta and Jeffrey Schmidt (Josephine); and his brother-in-law Patrick Beck. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

As expressions of sympathy donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
