He was predeceased by: his parents, Ada Gillan (Berry) and James Gillan; his brother Bruce; his great grandchild Brie; his brothers-in-law, Ray Campbell and Gilobert Lamorie; and his son-in-law Gary McEachern.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia (Ricker); his children, Lynn Smith of Guelph, Heather McEachern of Guelph, Shawn (Elaine) of Guelph, Michael of Gravenhurst, Kevin (Laura) of Baysville and David Elsley (Anne) of Markstay; his siblings, Naida Campbell of Gravenhurst, Janet Lamorie of Gravenhurst, Keith (Lorna) of Gravenhurst and Will (Marie) of Walkers Point; and his sister-in-law Lillian Gillan of Gravenhurst. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
