David John Morpeth Rooke Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of David John Morpeth Rooke announces his passing on July 20, 2026, in his 91st year.
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on May 26, 1936, David spent his childhood during the difficult years of the Second World War. He was raised by his mother and stepfather and spent much of his early life at public school. These formative experiences helped shape the independence, resilience, and strength of character that remained with him throughout his life.
At the age of 26, David came to Canada to pursue a job opportunity and begin a new chapter in his life. He moved to Ontario in 1969, where he met Marymargaret, who would become his beloved wife.
David had a deep appreciation for opera and classical music and was also an avid reader. His love of music and literature remained an important part of his life throughout the years.
David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marymargaret Rooke (née Cooke); his daughter, Ailsa; and his sister, Lorraine.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Jon; daughter-in-law, Lana; grandchildren, Dakotah, Brooklyn, and Brayden; his sister, Judith; his brother, Paul; and his many nieces and nephews, both in Canada and England.
David will be remembered for his strength of character, his genuine kindness, and the lasting impression he made on those who knew him. A traditional and gracious man, he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Those who knew David often spoke of what a wonderful man he was. His memory will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada.
