He was predeceased by: his son Junior Ottey; and his parents, Cecil Ottey and Margaret Ottey. He is survived by: his children, Yvonne Briscoe, Selvin Lloyd Ottey (Helen) and Sonia Brown (Maurice "Robert"); his grandchildren, Maurice, Matthew, Michael (Ashley), Karsten and Caitlen; his great grandchildren, Koa and Ruah; his siblings, Delores Forrester, Kenrick Ottey and Cecil Ottey (Carmen); and his nieces and nephews, Michael (Casmin), Kalesha Dyer (Eddie), Andrew, Curt (Andrea) and Conrad (Heather).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Desmond's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.
