He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Nancy; his children, Wayne, Hilda Bartels, Shanna Ravensbergen, Geoffrey, Chelsea Bartels, Sarah and James Vis; his siblings, Geraldine Sluyter (late Jacques), John (Willie Bartels), Bill (Annemarie Bartels) and Ben; and his siblings-in-law, Ann, Henry VanderScheer, Dick, Hilda Mechelse, Audrey, Herman Rustenburg, Tina, Paul VanVliet, Ron Mechelse, Jerry and Willy Mechelse. He was also cherished by 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
