Henry Elmar Sundin Obituary
Henry Elmar Sundin, known to family and friends as Hank, passed away unexpectedly in Hamilton, Ontario on May 5, 2026. Hank was born on March 27, 1937, in Sudbury, Ontario.
Hank was a devoted husband to Kay for 66 years, loving father to Rita (Michael), Eric (Heather), and Carla (Mike). Cherished grandfather to Sara (Curt), Danielle (Devon), Trevor (Cassandra), Natalie (Chris), Krista, Cassandra (Ryan), Tricia, and great-grandfather to Audrey, Coast, Oakley, Olive, and Brielle all of whom brought him joy and added meaning to his life. Hank was predeceased by his parents, Gunnar and Elna, and his brothers Alf and Lee (Levi). He will be deeply missed by his sister, Anita (Len), his brother, Eric (Margret), and many extended family members and friends.
A carpenter by trade with Union 18, he was a man of many interests and talents. Hank lived life with remarkable enthusiasm. He was deeply involved in competitive sports, including running, track and field, triathlon, canoe racing, cross-country skiing, and biking. Whether he was racing, training, or simply enjoying the trail, Hank brought dedication and spirit to everything he did.
Hank especially loved canoe tripping, fishing, and hunting. He also had a special affection for his pets (dogs and cats), and he appreciated the comfort and loyalty that animals brought into a home.
Hank's life was one of movement, love, and connection. The memories he created and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hamilton General Hospital for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place, and a gathering to celebrate Hank's life will be held on Friday May 15, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre, 100 King Street East, Dundas, On (additional parking at the Air Force Club).
