Maria Joaquina (dos santos) Gaivoto Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maria Joaquina (dos santos) Gaivoto (Hamilton, Ontario), who passed away on March 30, 2024, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends.
I know typically its common practise to acknowledge close family members but I’m sure those of you who were close, are more than aware who we are. So instead I would like to acknowledge those who were important part of her life towards the final years.
Alice, for stepping in after my father’s passing and helping my mother get to her appointments, get groceries and also just for being there for when she needed a friend. Margaret, for always keeping in touch and being the perfect party planner for our Mother’s 90th Birthday party which wouldn’t have been as successful without your support. Also, all the many friends in Ottawa especially those in the Portuguese community who became her extended family throughout the years. She missed them dearly after moving to Hamilton and would ask about many of you often.
I would also want to thank Caroline Place retirement for their care and support for our mother during some tough times especially during COVID. The team there was by far exceptional collectively but also as individuals who showered my mother with love and support as if she was their own mother. They all deserve a big hug but specifically I would like to thank Adam (our proxy brother, the boy) who I think was the son our mother wish she had!
We will not be holding services but with no obligation, donations would be appreciated to Emmanuel House Hospice who offered exceptional care to Maria making her last few weeks as comfortable as possible. We are truly grateful. (https://goodshepherdcentres.ca).
