He was predeceased by: his wife Grazia; his parents, Giuseppe Butera and Rosa Butera; his siblings, Carmelina Di Bartolo (late Giovanni), Giuseppina Nachele (late Paolo) and Lorenzo Butera (late Maria); and his brother-in-law Pasquale Baio (Maria).

He is survived by: his son Giuseppe; his daughter-in-law Emma; his daughter Rosa; his son-in-law James; his grandchildren, Daniela, Michael, Grazia and Mathew; his sibling Calogero Butera (Janice); and his sisters-in-law, Maria Calandrino (Giuseppe), Giuseppina Di Pietro (late Vittorio), Carmela Butera (Calogero) and Antonietta Castronovo (late Elia). He is also survived by the oldest of 5 brothers and sisters.
