He was predeceased by: his wife Anne Marie Wilson of Morell, PEI.; his parents, Alexander MacGillivray and Stella MacCormack; and his brothers, Grant MacGillivray, Charlie MacGillivray (Anita MacDonald) and Melvin MacGillivray.

He is survived by: his children, Maureen McDonnell (Mike) and Walter "Wally" MacGillivray; and his siblings, James MacGillivray (Marion MacDonald), Evelyn Chow (Frank), Mary Doyle (Jim), David MacGillivray (Cheryl Phalen), Johnny MacGillivray (Marie LeForte), Ronald MacGillivray, Brenda Christiaans (Joe) and Regina Fay (Jerry). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
